TELNETD and FTPD howto - 15/07/2001 13:27

Well, this issue hasn't been addressed in a while, so I figured I'd give it another shot. Does ANYONE out there have a HOWTO, or some sort of documentation in getting the FTPD and TELNETD working on the Empeg?

I am having problems with the Debian root link on the first message. Where else can I get it from?

I got mine from Frank's website - it's been mentioned on this board before, but the URL is:

OK, Thnaks.

Now it is half working. I can FTP in but not connect using telnet, when I use FTP I can't retrieve files (Error 550). I suppose that this is because the drives are not RWM but I can't RWM without telnet.

Any other perls of widom for me?

I am logging in using FTP as user and PWD.

Telnet connects and then the connection is dropped immediately before user and PWD are entered.
All I want to do is be able to edit files with Ultraedit's FTP option.

I have experienced some of the same problems.

I have managed to get FTP fully working though (you can rwm the drives using Hyperterminal or similar via the serial port, although I wouldn't have thought this would affect your ability to download via FTP). Download seems to work fine for me.

As far as telnet is concerned, I think the problem is that the debian image does not seem to contain "in.telnetd" which is what is being invoked in response to telnet connections (as specified in /etc/inetd.conf). Anyone know where one can get hold of this?

Warren.

I think you can get it off the debian website.

Right.. What I did (this is dangerous..) is make it so that my drives are in read/write mode when I hit the quit button on my empeg (I have to remember to R/O them manually..)

Telnet doens't wanna work w/o this.. People have found better workarounds though..
