Help - Installation - 07/09/2001 04:12

Hi
I'm trying to install my empeg. I have connected the wires up correctly (I think) apart from the antenna and the headlight wires as I'm not sure what these should conect to. When I plug the empeg into the car, nothing happens (no flashing blue led) and when I turn the ignition on, I get a strange sound coming from the speakers.

I'm installing into a 1994 Toyota MR2

Anyone got any ideas?

Based on your symptoms - I think not. You should recheck them very carefully. Did you get the wiring harness for the Toyota (this would not have come from sonic blue)? If not I highly recommend one (www.crutchfield.com)

The headlight wire is to dim the rio/empeg when the lights are on in the car. It may be called dimmer on wire harness. The antenna wire is to power a motorized antenna or remote amp turn on lead (not to be confused with the amp power lead)

I realize you are probably very new to the board so this is no big deal, but you will find that this type of question will get better response in the installation forum.

Check the fuse in the yellow wire is ok - there's a filter in line with the power wire.

I've checked all the wires with a multimeter and they all seem ok, but I can't get any resistance reading with the ground, so I guess I have an earthing problem somewhere

The fuse is ok.

The ground is very important (obviously). If you try to run it without a ground, it will try to ground through anything - including the shield of the audio outputs. In the worst case, you can blow the tracks going to the audio grounds. This was slightly addressed with the rio units, in that the tracks in question were thickened up a bit.

Does it work ok with the home PSU?

I've rechecked all the wires and they are all fine. The ground must be good as my Sony headunit worked fine anyway.

It works fine at home on the PSU. I think it must be a problem with the connector on the back of the unit, as everything else looks good.

Greetings!

What is your physical location? Is there someone nearby with an empeg that you can test your unit in their install, etc? That would eliminate the unit from the question, one way or another.

I'm in East London, England. I'm hopefully meeting up with someone on Sunday to try my unit in their car.
