Temperature causing problems

Temperature causing problems - 09/12/2001 20:22

I have been experiencing a problem with my Empeg. It seems like if I use the unit for more than two hours or so, it starts locking up. The song will just stop. You can access the menu, but it usually locks up with an hour glass just staying there.

I have Mlords lastest kernel installed and have noticed that the unit displays upper 50c reading when having the problems.

Is this associated with the kernel mods or the unit becoming to hot to process.

Might need to try a fan mod to see if it acts up at a lower temp after playing for a long time.

What kind of temp ranges are you other owners seeing?

Play the unit at home with a fan blowing over it. It shouldn't get up beyond 50 celcius that way. Judging by touch, mine can play all day (12 Hours) and be just slightly warm. The bottom will usually be a little warmer than the top because I have it sitting on top of a CD jewel case (ie. no ventilation).

It has messed up a time or two in the house. But I didn't get a reading on the temp at the time(didn't think about it) so until it messes up again I won't know for sure.

Well, I took the plunge and added a fan. About an hour worth of work. We shall see if this keeps it cooler and 'lockup' free.

If your empeg is hanging like that, it sounds like you have some other problem. It could be software, or it could be hardware. Have you always had this problem, or did it just start?

My empeg has been locking up a lot... at home usually. A re-boot always fixes it, so Ithink it is software. I am running 2.03beta, so I figured the next release would fix it...

It just started since v2beta. A reboot would not fix it. Seemed like a temp problem. Usually doesn't do this unless it has been playing in the vehicle for a couple of hours. Just recently took a couple of road trips that were longer than two hours and this is when I noticed the problem. Luckily for me I had the radio module.
