USB no work

USB no work - 18/04/2000 07:49

I just updated to 10a and now trying to connect to the EMPEG via USB fails. I either get a "your EMPEG is not connected correctly" or Emplode times out and or locks up. Serial conection works great although it is a LOT slower.

Any ideas? I've tried unplugging and replugging the USB connector and Windows reconizes it.

Check the following:

1) You are running Windows 98 or Windows 2000 rather than 95 or NT4, right?

2) The USB cable has worked correctly in the past? (i.e., you know it's good and the software drivers for it are functioning, you can use other USB devices without trouble)

3) You performed the upgrades in the following order:

- Upgrade Emplode to 10a, but don't run it yet. (i.e., you downloaded, unzipped, and installed the 10a version of Emplode.)
- Use the 10a Empeg Upgrade Tool (which gets updated along with Emplode) to update your Empeg Car to version 10a consumer via the serial cable. (i.e., you downloaded this file and used EmpegUpgrade.exe to send it to the Empeg.)

4) You rebooted the computer and the Empeg after the upgrades.

5) The Emplode software has been configured to use the USB cable instead of the serial cable.

1. Win 98

2. Yep. Worked last week. And works today on my PC at work.

3. Yep.

4. Yep.

5. Yep. And if I switch to serial it connects, but serial is WAY too slow. Actually USB is too slow, but I can live with it. 8-)

Yep. Worked last week. And works today on my PC at work.

Good, okay, that narrows it down quite a bit.

Something must have gone south with your home PC's hardware or drivers. Check the device manager for "little yellow boo-boo icons" (official Microsoft name).

Has your system BIOS been reset recently? Check to make sure USB is enabled there.

My usb mouse works great. And switching the mouse and the EMPEG shows windooze autodetecting both devices and the mouse still works.

..empeg has stated before that they might have problems when plugged in alongside another usb device - try just using the empeg, without your usb mouse, and see if it shows up... If you can, you should also try a different cable - you never know if it might have gotten stepped on/whatever.. As a last resort, downgrade your empeg/emplode software to what you know worked, and see if it still works..

Good diagnostic tips, Mark. I personally have a USB mouse plugged in at the same time as the Empeg is synching and I haven't had the slightest problem, but there could be differences with motherboards and drivers.

Still, doesn't explain why it would suddenly quit working for him when it worked before. Unless the USB mouse was a new addition...

I also have a USB mouse & scanner.
One day, just to test it, I was able to do a scan, Sync to Empeg and use the mouse simultaneously. This was in Beta 9 when things were shakier and I haven't had the need to do so since, but things have been more stable for me in B10a.

May be an odd combination of drivers & boards.

Did this ever get resolved? I'm having similar USB problems.

Thanks
