Serial port power supply - 13/01/2002 02:40

Well Phillips and/or local rep are taking a _long_ time to get back to me on the
DSP docs and/or NDA paperwork so I'm finishing off some more of my hardware.

I am going to have a small microcontroller in my car hooked up the empeg
serial port. I think having 12V power on PIN4 was VERY handy feature.
However, in converting the 12V into the 5V source I need, I realised I don't
know a whole lot about this 12V signal... so,

Is the 12V on the car docking connecter serial direct direct from the power
input to the EMPEG (i.e. will see all those fun transients in the car's electrical
system) or is it already partially/fully conditioned?

It's the switched amp line. So it's fused and diode-protected, ie guaranteed not to go below 0v (unless the amp or something else on the line pulls it low).
