My screen flickers...

My screen flickers... - 02/03/2002 00:44

Ok I have an MK2a I'm running 2.00b11 with Hijack 220 other wise no other hacks. At first I thought it might be software refreshing the screen but it seams to be a random flicker. It will flicker at least once every new song but usually happens a few times a song. Is this a software or hardware issue? Oh it's in my home when I notice the flicker (don't think it's the dimmer thing but I'm most likely wrong.)

do you have the original power supply or a similar one?
Maybe a similar PSU doesn't supply enough power to the player...

Try plugging it straight into the wall, avoiding the UPS. APC has been well known in the past for delivering crappy power. (They might be better now, but I have no way of knowing, since I'll never buy their products again.)

Damn, you have a number of corporate grudges don't you? Well, I hope I've swayed you from the ATI boycott.

My APC UPS (from about 1.5 years ago) has been behaving very nicely since I first installed it. I do use it only for my computer. A lot of people managed to clean up their power problems using APC products (loads of Mac users getting all sorts of issues from things like refrigerators in the next room, etc.. )

Well here’s an update.
I've been running all day on non-ups power but it still flickers. I know that there's an issue with some of the older APC regulators and or batteries going bad, but seeing how my lights flicker in the house (bad power around here) but my Rio doesn't flicker at the same time even on non-ups power it’s got to be something else.

Thanks though,

Sounds vaguely like the issue that "capacitor video" thread was talking about.

Wouldn't ya know it no flickering today, no I really don't think this could have fixed it but I installed charcoalgray99's xsl stylesheet v1.0 last night. Oh and last night the bottom line was the only part flickering instead of the usual full screen flicker. (maybe blink would be a better word than flicker) Any whoo any ideas will be tried but hacking hardware will be last (not scared just would like to keep the warranty hehe)

Thanks all

Heh, I knew I forgot to mention my flicker-fix in the release notes.

Ok screen is back at it all it does is flicker once either the whole screen or just the bottom line. The screen doesn't dim it goes off the right back on, it seams to coincide with HD activity, and no info from hyperterm. Is this the dimmer problem or a software refresh problem? Oh I would say it happens in my car as well as at home.

Thanks, and sorry if I'm being too much of a newbee.

I think it's a software problem (sometimes, in Now & Next mode, the timecode flickers but the track names don't). I've only seen it since 2.0beta11. I'll look into it.
