MKl sled wires

MKl sled wires - 16/05/2002 13:48

I got my MKl yesterday and have a question about the wires on the sled. I don't know if they are supposed to be like this or not. The red (power input) wire looks to be cut as does the black (ground) and orange (amplifier power) wires. Is this going to make installing more difficult? I know that these sleds are no longer available.

I do like the looks of the MKl.

Define "Cut" ?

They are bare wires with nothing on the ends. Does that explain it or should I try and take a decent picture of it?

Still not sure what you mean exactly. If you're just saying "There's no connector plug", then that's normal. The Mk1 didn't have a connector plug assembly.

Ok, here's a picture of it.

Looks normal to me.

I mean, of course you'll have to get some bare wire on the ends with a wire stripper, but that's a normal part of installing a stereo.

Also, remember that the Mk1 did not have two separate wires for power like the Mk2 does. It only had one power wire for connecting to the ignition-switched wire. It also does not have a headlight-sense wire. Finally, remember that the wires are color-coded differently between the Mk1 and the Mk2. Be careful what you hook up.

Thanks Tony. I feel better now. I was afraid I would have to sell my house to aquire a MKl sled from someone. I'll have to hook it up to my stereo and play around with it some.

even if that docking connector was totally screwed up you can order one from newark and resolder the wires on.

That's nice to know if I could solder. I haven't picked up an iron in years but I wasn't too bad at it. I could solder something to the side of a barn at least

Well, sure -- as long as you had the proper flux for soldering things onto wood.

even if you can't solder it's just nice to know the connector is avaliable in case that one gets ruined. (like on the mk1 I had where the pins broke off)

Yes it is nice to know. I can always find someone who can solder.
