I can connect only via serial port , but I cannot drop to shell (when i press Q , Ctrl-A or Ctrl-T it just ignores it?

I also am now getting Hard Drive Not Found / Customer Support message intermittently.

It wont allow me to flash to an older kernel either.

It's either a loose cable(more likely), or the HD going bad(less likely).

i actually bought it second hand.
I opened it up and the cables aren't loose.
i guess my only option is to replace the drive.

What is the serial number of this unit?

Before scrapping the hard drive, try reinstalling EVERYTHING from scratch.

I can't get it to reinstall any image at the moment.

Should I try installing that disk rebuilding image?

No.

First, contact David in support and replace the cable.

Even if the connectors are plugged in tight, the cable and/or connectors themselves are probably faulty. It is about 80% likely that this is your problem.

I get NO HARD DISK FOUND CONTACT SUPPORT with the new cable.

Be absolutely certain that you do not have the new cable installed with a one-pin offset from its correct position either on the hard drive or the mainboard. The IBM Travelstar drives are built in such a fashion that it is not only easy to offset the cable by one pin, it actually looks more "correct" that way.
