Is 1A the same as 1000mA?? - 14/06/2002 00:28

I have a power supply I found in my garage rated 12VAC 1000mA....

Is that the same as 1 amp? I'm looking for a power supply replacement for my new Empeg...

(I couldn't find this answer in the FAQ) ;-)

Yes it is!

m = milli = 10 ^(-3), so 1000E-3 = 1

12VAC 1000mA
Make sure it's not 12V *AC* output.

Yes, be very sure that it's not AC output - the player doesn't like AC power and will tell you so as it dies, leaving a cloud of smoke an acrid burning smell.

As David said, be very careful not to let the magic smoke out or it will stop working.
Magic smoke is very important to electronic items, it is what makes them work.
