Replacement cable

Replacement cable - 14/06/2002 12:41

OK... I just recieved my drive cable replacement from support. I only have one question. Do I REALLY have to send te old one back? Call me crazy, but it seems silly to me to ship a faulty drive cable 2000 miles. (I only ask this because there was an RMA sticker inside the package, stating " Please return your faulty goods by re-using the packaging and attaching this label. Posting by the slowest, cheapest means possible is fine."

Oh wait... I only have to ship it to Oregon, so it's only 800 miles. Still, do I need to go through this?

It may seem stupid but they probably get credit for it and a replacement in it's place. For that it would be worth it.

OK fine.... I'll return it. Not that I'm so totally opposed to doing so. It just seemed silly.

Yeah, if you don't return it, how are they supposed to package it up and send it to the next guy who asks for a replacement cable?

Re: Replacement cable - 14/06/2002 14:37

I'm the person who sends the cables and the returns label.

The drive cables are worth quite a bit (double figures) - therefore I'd like to collect back as many as possible, although more so when we throw them back at the supplier, there might be enough to hurt someone

Since I'm asking people to pay for the postage, I arranged for returns to be collected at the US office to keep the cost as low as possible. You are under no obligation whatsoever to return the cable - it is purely a voluntary thing. Less than half of customers actually return cables.

Yeah, I've never seen that label too.

If you want them, I'll have a look in my 'pc-junk-pile' and see if I can find them. I might have also thrown them in the trash though...

I only started including a returns label a few months ago. I also don't bother for users outside the US/Canada/Europe. There are also times when I forget to click the button that prints the return label or the printer mangles it and I can't be bothered to print another one.

In short, nah, there's no need to return the cable.

;8^) If I knew that you actually got cash back from the dealer, I'd have not hesitated in the first place.

Can we buy a cable? I accidentally ripped mine (forgot that you'd put glue on the cable when it was in for service) and my only spare is the old "bad" one... I'd like to pay for one since it was my fault... but I can ship back the "bad" one if it can be useful to you... (I tossed one in the bin...)
