In-car PS/2

Anyone have any wisdom to share over installing a PS 2 in a car?

Nope... ever since the car got broken into and the empeg stolen and the LCD screen busted open from the theif trying to get it out and failing... I haven't touched it. It's still busted... i just haven't had time. Add that to the fact that i plan on getting a WRX early next year to my lack of motivation factor. I do need to fix it before i sell the Si though... i'm just gonna leave it in there.

As for wisdom... hm. Not much i can think of... it's pretty straight forward. I WOULD however recommend mounting it somewhere accessible to the cabin. Mine rarely got used simply because you had to open the damn trunk with the car running to load up a new disc and power the PS2 on. Under the seat mounting would probably be ideal especially if you could do a little shockmounting. I powered mine through an inverter that is hardwired behind the cig lighter and just ran a power cable to the trunk. I also used 4 9' controller extenders and mounted the sockets in the center console... which came out PIMP if you ask me or anyone else who sees it.

Not having yet got my hands on one, I am not even certain about power supply requirements. The way you talk about using an inverter implies that it is mains powered only, with no external DC power supply possible. Is this the case? This would be a major PITA if so, as well as putting the overall cost.

The ps2 has line voltage plug directly into it. No wall wart. So you would have to use an inverter or rip apart the ps2 and skip the internal power supply.

yeap, no wall wart. I wasn't willing to rip my PS2 open so i just got a $30 inverter, cut of the cig lighter adaptor and soldered it to the 12v line. Easy.

Speaking of ps2.. I have one for sale. Modded with a magic 2 chip. Just make a backup of your game and you dont have to be worrying about getting them scratched in the car. ;-)
I know this isn't the best place for this but its about the ps2 and I thought maybe someone wanted to try the incar thing.

This might be a stupid question but, what do you use to make back up copies of your games? Programs, hardware etc.

How much work was it to put the lcd in the drink console area. Ive been thinking about some projects for my civic, but have refrained for lack of money and motivation.

easy if you have the right tools. It was done in one night by my friend who's an installer. If you don't have all the brackets/hot glue/dremmel/mdf plastic... stuff like that, i can imagine it would take a while.
