Make my Dream come true

Make my Dream come true - 30/09/2003 17:36

I have searched around and can't seem to find what I want so I'll ask here, as you all know I sold my Empeg to make room for a Nav system and I really miss it..

Has anyone heard of, seen or have a link to a REMOTE moutable MP3 player with a standard Video out and wired or wireless remote. I have a ton of Video Inputs on my current radio "Alpine IVA-900" so all I need it a video output from a mp3 player and some way to controll it..

I don't have room for the Empeg in my little glove box, under the seats and if I put it in the back the Speaker Box would pound it into puddings, I though or using that system before I sold my empeg but I ruled it out for space reasons.

I have found a small 17cm by 17cm 12 vot mother board with built in VGA and sound, I think I can cram it up-sidedown in the over head console but I would like other options before I try that option.

Used Ipaq, and Pocket CoPilot w/ the new sleeve ($600 total), and put the empeg back in as the HU. You'll get there. Oh yeah, did the Karma-on-dash thing tonight, you'll want power for b/l if you run in the dark.

been there done that the Pocket Streets and Other hand held maps programs Suck, compaired to the DVD version I have now. Heck the Street I live on when I am home isn't even on the map Nor is the town. so once again " Putting the Empeg back as the HU is NOT an option, no matter how much I woujld like toO0

Huh. That's too bad. I've been really happy w/Pocket CoPilot, it most definitely doesn't suck, it does text to speech and the whole bit, I can understand wanting the nice screens DVD have tho. The only time I'd seen a DVD I was in Taiwan and it was in Chinese. That made playing with it difficult. Good luck.

Maybe "Sucks" was too strong a word.. but in the last month alone I have been to atleast 5 different places that are not on map quest or pocket streets

Heck I live in the town of Lincoln (Not Lincoln City) Oregon 97304 the town is not on most maps. its loads of fun given an address of a place plugging that into mapquest or streets and getting the "Address not found error"

A good ol' A-Z is what you need.

GPS? Pfff, fancy sorcery. Keep your Empeg

I still don't understand your decision - but each to their own I guess.

Have you investigated whether it would be possible to add a DIN pod to the top of the dash?

Re: Make my Dream come true - 07/10/2003 09:44

What about keeping the Empeg, and using a 6" flatscreen on the console with the DVD GPS in the glovebox or somewhere else.

Re: Make my Dream come true - 07/10/2003 12:42

It is not a choise I made lightly i didn't have any other options...
The Best most up-to-date GPS/Nav System on the market is the Alpine unit so that is why I go, I am a System Administrator III and I handle trouble calls for Northen Ca. Oregon, Washington and Utah, I get a call on my Cell phone or at the Hotel that says Customer #411 has a firewall down go fix it.

I tired this with my PDA and Pocket Streeets and then again with map quest after putting in about 100 of the mom and pop places I get sent to and finding over half of them are not on Maps, heck some of the 1 horse towns are not even on the maps.

the glove box isn't deep enouhg to mounts anything in. if you remove the box completely you would have to cut the ac/heater duct to place 3 cans of Pepsi in it..

Under the Dash also didn't work the center console is full of the Brains from the head unit. So I picked up 2 6 Disk mp3 changers that gives me about 1200 of my songs but the interface sucks (Sure I get ID3 tags but the songs are in the order they were burned on the disks ANNOYING) and no play lists.

Seeing my Head Unit Has 2 sets of Aux in's with video I started dreaming of getting my empeg back in some form.

I have looked at most of the portable MP3 players and I think a custom hacked Empeg is my best best (or a Micro Computer shoved somewhere)

As for the DIn Pod on the dash It would block drivers view and Here in Oregon it is just tall enough to get me a ticket (I checked

Jon Bjorgen has his installed in his S-10 Blazer under the dash. It seems fine there. I think he told me it was a mount he made himself. Perhaps he'll join in with some pictures.

Re: Make my Dream come true - 07/10/2003 17:29

Someone posted pics of a custom fiberglass under dash mount I can't remember what kind of car it was. Was that yours or another one I can't find it now.

Re: Make my Dream come true - 08/10/2003 09:10

Ok...the promised pictures are here. It looks like your Blazer is a bit newer model than mine (1989). I doubt you'd want to go with my solution as I permanently altered the ashtray and the shelf underneath it.

Re: Make my Dream come true - 08/10/2003 09:44

My Blazer is a 1995 I don't have that shelf or even a semi flat spot under the dash with the heater ducts back there (see Photo) I don't even have the depth to mount the empeg there with out MAJOR remodeling

Re: Make my Dream come true - 08/10/2003 17:52

Yours is not the one I was thinking of but it the same idea. They made a fiberglass pod and mounted it under the dash I can't find it now.

Re: Make my Dream come true - 13/10/2003 09:48

I believe the one you're thinking of was an F-150. I don't know the user name for the guy that did it, but he is my old coworker who introduced me to the empeg.
