Hijack feature idea: Setting IP/netmask

Hijack feature idea: Setting IP/netmask - 24/04/2003 00:25

What about temporarily changing the IP/netmask via the hijack menu?

I sometimes visit friends with my empeg who don't even know what DHCP is,
but have a network card in their system for DSL.
It would be pretty cool if one could change the IP/netmask via hijack
and then access hijack's HTTP/FTP server for file transfer.

The way I do this, as do others here, is to use the ;@HOME and ;@WORK macros in config.ini to specify alternative network configurations.

Then just select between them at run time from the Hijack menu.

The problem is, you can never predict what kind of network people are using (I juse 192.168.12.X at home, 172.16.X.X at the company and most of my friends run 192.168.1.X).

Perhaps I'll do a patch when I've got time as you seem to be satisfied with your solution ;-)

I'm wondering if I have to restart the player application after changing the IP...

probably much easier to just change the network config on the PC.

That method also doesn't require taking up any more of the very limited RAM space on the player.
