During the install of emplode, you are asked for the serial number of the unit. Although I am pretty much sure that this is non-functional, I'd just like to check if the serial number of the unit is placed on the unit at any time to match the physical label on the outside of the case. Is the number sent to the unit?

If so, is it accessable via any library API, or interrogation method of the player while it's running as a process?

It's returned in /proc/hwinfo (I think it's hwinfo, it's been a while since I've had anough spare time to hack about with the developer version) or some other /proc/xxxx

Whether it's set from emplode, or emplode checks against the empeg I don't know, but I hope it's hardcoded into the unit

Thanks - just what I needed.

Are you anywhere around Co Antrim? I used to live in Greenisland near Carrick for about 8 years.

I live in Co. Armagh, but work in Antrim town at present. Carrickfergus Castle was one of my favourite places to visit when I was a child, and I will accept (or sometimes engineer) any excuse to drive round the Antrim coast road

The serial number entered during emplode installation is currently used for absolutely nothing.

I may not be speaking on behalf of empeg above :-)

It's shown in the about box
