jemplode (missing) artist tag?

jemplode (missing) artist tag? - 03/08/2003 22:26

hey, this is probably on the BBS somewhere but a quick search didn't find anything..

I've installed the latest jemplode (off the website; v45 I believe) using the jemplode installer (including vm), for the purpose of copying my music off onto my hard drive. Problem is, it's missing every single artist tag??

Is there a bug that's there, and is there a workaround?

Thanks,

I'm not sure if there is a bug but I always just used the custom naming feature and then used mp3 tag studio to fill out the tags from the file names.

When you say it's missing every artist tag, what do you mean? Missing = not importing, or missing = the tunes you had on your Empeg aren't showing up with artists when you download the database? (though either way, that is perplexing)

OK that's really weird ... Can you doubleclick one of those and look in the Advanced tab? This basically has the raw key-value pairs from the tag file ... Do you see anything that has the name of the artist in there -- if so, can you send me the key name that goes along with it? Are ALL of your artists gone or just the ones from a particular playlist/etc? Can you tell if there's something weird going on in the advanced tab like a space in front of or at the end of the tag name "artist"? Maybe I'm not trimming spaces and Emplode is or something silly like that?

Every artist is gone. It shows under the advanced properties tab, but not under details.

Found the problem.. It seems to be a simple capatilization thing.. If I add an artist (lower case) in the advanced tab and a corresponding key value, it shows up; but all the Artist key in my songs are Capitalized...

Legacy empeg upgrade where they changed the case, maybe? anyway to get the jemplode software to see 'Artist' as being the same as 'artist' ?

i should lowercase all tag names when i read them in -- i thought i did that, but obviously not other than doing a global search and replace on your Empeg, there's no _easy_ way to fix that. if you know any Java, it probably wouldn't be too hard to write a little Java program that uses the jEmplode API's to load the database, change the capitalization and sync it back, but that's probably more pain than you want to go through.

as far as fixing it, I'll probably be able to start to put jEmplode back together again (jEmplode was torn apart into tiny pieces to reuse pieces in another project) when I get back from vacation ... maybe I can get another version out before too long.

I don't think it's the tags themselves, but rather the "Artists" key.. (vs. artists)
