Boot Up Animation Requests....

Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 11/11/2003 19:57

I suck. I can't make animations. I made the one in link in my signature "Digital Empeg", but I had to do it frame by frame in MS Paint! Yeah, with my old job I could waste all day doing that, but now I'm not even near a computer most days of the week... sigh...

So... I shamelessly am posting some boot-up animation requests, hoping that someone out there has the talents I don't!

1) A "Knight Rider" type KITT animation of either the hood lights (going left to right to left to right) or the in-car thing that moved to KITT's voice....

2) Anything Subaru, whether it be WRX or the SUBARU logos... I'm not picky! Here is a link for logos: http://logos.subaru.com/logos/logos.html

Anyone else have any wishes?

Attachment isn't anything special, but if you give me a specific request, I should be able to work it up for you.

I just attached the final animated gif, but you can load it in JEmplode's animation editor and load it to your deck without any trouble (already tested it myself).

Maybe one of these days you can work up something girly with flowers and butterflys and such for my wife. I try to get her excited about cool features like GPS and crossfading, but she seems to be more thrilled that she can change the lens color and boot logo every month. She's also excited about the possibility of different colored fascias and things like that.

I'm with webroach.
I'm soon to post my site with several custom static and animated logos, empeg skins, and even several anavu backgrounds. There will be a request section for those willing to be patient with me. I'll try to have it up and running by next week.

WHat a nice job, webroach.

Well, I can't help asking then I can't find anything that says "Audi A3". If you can and wish to help me out with this, I'd really appreciate. I tried several time so far, and I have to admit that I am quite bad at that...

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 12/11/2003 13:55

couldnt remember if they were round, square or the number of LED's.
This one had to have 8 in order to go left to right and back in under 27 frames
Again, load it in JEmplode's animation editor.

I just tossed this one together using Dave's spinning letters. It's supposed to be a turbo spinning... but the contrast didn't work out to well. If i get time i'll revisit it later.

Here's another of a WRX driving up. I'm just playing around trying to find a good video. Anyone have a vid of a WRX doing a drift or something that might work?

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 12/11/2003 16:44

How's this? It's a bit bright but looks ok.
one small thing, for some reason frames 22-24 have a 1 pixel line thats runs across when loaded with JEmplode. That can easly be removed using JEmplode before uploading.

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 12/11/2003 17:01

First off, BEAUTIFUL with the Turbo WRX. Love it!

Second, if you have the video of the WRX driving up in a larger size, I should be able to stabilize it for you. Might make a nice background....

Too many frames does not slow down the boot time, but it causes the screen to blink strangely near the end of the boot sequence because the player app and the kernel begin to fight for who's painting the screen.

a3v3 has less than 27 frames, and it starts blinking like you said. which is VERY COOL when you're using the matrix bootup animation.

"Motocross" attached. It's a little fast, and I'm not sure how it'll look on the empeg (haven't tried loading it yet).

The images from the Kenwood site are pretty cool, but they pose some problems because of the larger size (176 x 32 as opposed to 128 x 32) and the greater number of frames (80+ in some cases).

Let me know how it works.

Looks best if you use the last frame as your static boot.

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 19/11/2003 13:30

Not sure if you chose to use the animation i came up with but in case you did, I would like to provide you with a better file than the one posted.
I notice that the ani tool in jemplode does not convert these 32 color animations to 4 colors very well. So I decided to convert them myself. The result is a much clearer animation. The previews may not look great but at least this is exactly what you will see on the empeg screen.
Take a look at this preview and the original file and yoll see what i mean

One frame at a time in Photoshop. That is why you see the logo shift slightly once the camera pans out and the WRX goes zooming by.
I wasn't trying to be precise. I just wanted to try out a few frames and preview it to see if it would work.

Must of happened during upload.

This is excellent skunknumber1. And you responded so quickly!

There are no artifacts when I tried the logo out on my unit.

I want to put this on the site where you can download squash. I don't mind putting up the gif file, however how do I get the file in the raw image format? (I don't expect everyone to install jemplode, and the aniwrite program will write the raw format).

But thanks again!!! I am going to put the gif file up in anycase, and it's of course already on my unit.

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 21/11/2003 07:27

it causes the screen to blink strangely near the end of the boot sequence because the player app and the kernel begin to fight for who's painting the screen.

Is it possible to put a program it the bootup which just waits x seconds, so that longer animations can finish before the player-app starts?

cheers, Thomas

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 21/11/2003 08:33

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 22/11/2003 16:31

Is there any sort of trick in Photoshop to get a 4-color pallet that would mimic the one the empeg uses? I see a lot of boot logos at RioCar.org that are WAY more than 4 colors and don't use the proper shades. They look nice on the site, but don't work on the empeg.

When I used to make boot logos, I'd do a "copy/paste" from the Logo Editor to whatever program I was using (usually MS Paint) of a few pixels to get the right shades. Then I'd do it all by hand to get it to work right. But this would not only be a pain for 30 frames, it would also be hard to maintain the same look from frame to frame.
Posted by: tfabris

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 22/11/2003 20:11

I don't know how to do it in Photoshop.

In Paint Shop Pro, it's very easy, you just create a palette and then apply that palette to the image, choosing whether you want it dithered and how.

If I recall correctly, photoshop has very poor tools for working with palletized images, which is why I switched to Paint Shop Pro (it has some useful and easy features for dealing with palletized images).

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 22/11/2003 20:24

I am no Photoshop expert and that's why I had to improvise when making my logo. I used the "Save for Web..." feature to save each frame as a GIF. While in the Save for Web thing, I loaded the attached color table I had made. Works for me.

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 22/11/2003 21:34

Your old photoshop files will still work. If you have any text layers, photoshop will just ask you to update these layers in order for you to use the updated features for text.
Like Rob said, the "Save for web" feature works good to get images to the four empeg colors. just convert your file to grayscale before you use that function.

For the files on rio.org, open them with ImageReady and click on your optimize tab on the file window. Play with the settings on the top right corner of the program. Be sure to have gif and (4) colors selected. The file window will give for a preview of the changes you make. Now, once you are happy with the way it looks, go to File-save optimized as-and your destination.

Upload and test your animation.
Up the contrast if needed

-Loren-
What did you use for fixing the contrast?

Re: Boot Up Animation Requests.... - 12/12/2003 10:22

a while back i found a gif that had my name on it and the correct way to print it. much like its taught in elementary school, with the first instance of it showing in bold the way its supposed to look, and having arrows and numbers showing which way to draw the loops and what to draw first. then on the second set of lines it had the same thing, without the arrows, with a dotted trace-the-dot style line image of the word. last night i used that and created a boot logo for my empeg, which i think turned out pretty neat.
