JEmplode 57 Bugs - 31/07/2004 12:22

(on Windows XP, against v3a8, Hijack v409)

  • In the empeg discovery dialog, the mouse cursor is an hourglass, but you can still click on things.
  • In the animation editor, attempting to download the animated logo doesn't do anything: JEmplode freezes.
  • Similarly with attempting to upload a GIF animation: it freezes.

Hijack reports "kftpd: ksock_rw(response) failed, rc=0"

Tony's Logo Editor can successfully upload static logos using Hijack.

Those last two have been around for a couple of versions, as I recall. Mike? What's up with that?

Interesting ... Not sure how this code ever worked. I guess if Hijack used to immediately return a 226 from an ftp download request it would have. Uploading jEmplode 58 now.

Incidentally the discovery thing is actually intentional, albeit a bizarre interface. I wanted to show that it was doing something, but still allow you to click the cancel button. Not sure what the correct UI approach for that should be. I guess windows uses that searching flashlight animation ..... I don't think I have that at my fingertips. Maybe a candy-cane progress bar or something.

You could also use the pointer-and-hourglass cursor, but the animated flashlight is probably the right answer.

I forgot about that cursor ... I'll have to see if Java has access to that one.

Also in the discovery dialog, here's one that's been around for a handful of versions:

Specifying only a specific address doesn't work: JEmplode still finds my colleagues' players and makes me choose.

And while we're here, syncing with only changes to config.ini used to be very, very quick. Now it does a database rebuild and reboots the player as well. Not quick. I'd edit over FTP if I could get it to work neatly with Tramp.

Even when broadcast discovery is disabled? If you disable it, then restart does it do the same thing?

Yes, and yes. It's been annoying me for a while now (probably months; my music-buying has slowed in the last year or so). In the connection options dialog I have only "Specific Address" checked, and the appropriate field filled in.

Yeah I can imagine that would be pretty damn annoying. I'll take a look at what's going on there.

Thanks, Mike.
