Paging/swapping - 16/09/2000 11:39

Is it possible to add a swap partition when in shell? I seem to remember that there is a suitable unused partition, but I cannot find a reference now. How to do it (just swapon or is there something one has to do to prepare the partition to serve ad paging area)?

Related to this, what about disk spinning regime? Should one, in order to be able to use dynamic paging/swapping, force disk to keep spinning (if so, how), or would it spin up automagically when paging fault happens?

Thanks!

On my player there is a 16M swap partition on /dev/hda6 and I believe that is supplied by empeg. To turn it on just type swapon /dev/hda6. Otherwise you can do whatever you want with /dev/hda2. You can make it more swap by issuing the command mkswap /dev/hda2 or format it to ext2 by mke2fs /dev/hda2.
