OT(Kind of):Possible to reverse engineer kernel config? - 02/05/2001 12:59

In this case, this isn't empeg related, but it's possible that it could apply at some point -

Is there a reasonable way to determine what options a kernel was compiled with? I need to recompile, but I don't want to leave anything important out, and I'm not too familiar with the specific platform (sparc, in case it matters).

Thanks,

Bill B.

not normaly, there is a nice patch that VA linux has that will keep a copy of the .config file that was used to build a kernel image, gziped up, and available via /proc/config.gz, but that's the only way I've ever seen

Debian generally keeps a copy of the config file for the current kernel in /boot, IIRC -- as long as you installed a stock kernel .deb, or used make-kpkg to build a custom one.

Roger - not necessarily speaking for empeg
