MP3 Types Supported

MP3 Types Supported - 08/06/1999 19:21

I was wondering if anyone could answer the following questions:
1. Is VBR (MP3 Variable Bit Rate from Audio Catalyst) supported?
2. Are M3u playlists supported?
3. Are lower bit rate MP3's supported (ie voice grade)
These are not idle questions since I'm thinking of buying a empeg player
if it will fit in a 99 Honda Accord. Comments from any users would be
welcome

Hi, I was told that it would support all the bit rates, including the VBR. I don't like the VBR that much because it doesn't save me that much room, and my Dimond Rio goes nuts when i play them. That means that the display does not read the time accurately.. It jumps around.

Yes, VBR is supported, as are lower bitrate MP3's and also MPG2's.

M3U playlists are not supported - our database system is much better than this for handling playlists - but we will support playlist import (possibly not in the very first release).

VBR can do one of two things, depending on the type of music/sound you are compressing. You can get a smaller file with the same music quality, or better music quality with the same or similar filesize.

If the Diamond Rio does not correctly display the time for VBR files then its implementation of VBR is not correct.

I compress all of my files into VBR, it just makes more sense to lower the bitrate for portions of the music that contains less information, and to increase it for those portions that contains more.
