Getting a Shell prompt with -non- Linux OS ... - 20/09/1999 08:38
Hi !
I would love to get a shell promt to my empeg ...
But as my Linux PC lives in another room to be a file server & firewall, i would love to use my Win98 PC to connect to the empeg :)
SO is there a way of getting a Shell prompt e.g. with Hyperterm ?!
( Well i am seeing the bootup messages, but trying to press Ctrl-C several times failed :(
Please help if possible :)
Thx: Nils

I use Hyperterminal at work, and Connector on my Acorn at home (Hugo will remember those and the serial block drivers.. =)
I'm running the developer image, and just press 'q' then return when the player is active. (The term is set for 115200 8N1 VT100)

Ooops ?!
When exactly should i press q ?
I already to press q - return after the message:
Press 'q' now to go into development mode. You Have 1 Second To Comply...
but that had no effect ...
So i also tried q - return when the player was playing music ... no effect ...
Heh :) maybe i am just stupid, but i am still not able to get the prompt.
Please help me out ...

You need the developer image to get a prompt.

You must make sure that serial handshaking is OFF: no RTS/CTS.
It could be that your PC is waiting for the empeg to signal it is clear to send, which it won't, so your empeg never sees your input.
