I remember someone saying this can be done. If so, how? I don't have my serial cable with me right now....

ftp my.empeg
put v170.hijack.v200b8.mk2.zImage /proc/empeg_kernel
site reboot
quit

Here's what I've been using. You'll have to modify it with your ip and directory. Create a file association in windows for .zImage to open the batch file.

The filename being uploaded is hard coded, which isn't the best thing, but it's simple and works.

Just don't be stupid and do those steps while you're using emplode to upload new MP3s like I did Didn't do any damage(except for the MP3s that were being uploaded, and had to re-sync)

Mmm.. perhaps the emplode protocol handler (on the player) doesn't handle low memory gracefully..

Well, emplode doesn't like the player to be rebooted in the middle of a transfer I'd forgotten that I was uploading music when I upgraded the kernel, then did SITE REBOOT.
