VNC controls don't work with Hijack 225? - 03/03/2002 05:22

[Insert usual claims of having searched BBS and FAQ here ;-)]

I jumped from Hijack v200 to v225 (both over 2.0b11, using VNC server v0.7), and now I can't control the player via VNC client any more (neither mouseclicks over buttom images not arrow keys etc work). Display works as usual (that is, well, except that it goes dead for 2-3 seconds while the player is reading from the disk).

(BTW, this is my first tread-starting post after quite a long time, so I didn't see the note to new users before; hillarious )

VNC probably needs to be updated for the new button command format. When sending buttons to /proc/empeg_notify, the syntax is now "BUTTON=xxxxxxx" and "BUTTONRAW=xxxxxxx".

Oops. Fixed. (I hadn't been keeping up too well with Hijack recently. )

Good. `Cause I didn't test it.

Thanks, Bitt! I use VNC routinely (even now that I installed Tom's XML stuff - the screen is larger and updates more frequently), so I missed control functionality.

Well, this is embarrassment of riches: how many ways of controling our empegs do we have now?

Not enough! We still have yet to make use of the on-board CKS-9243 telepathic receiver chip. Who needs VR when you can just think of what music you want to hear!

It had better have a damn good context engine, otherwise Hugo will never get to hear anything other than Britney Spears tracks.

Teehehehee...

Yeah I think the context engine would have to recognize when you're thinking of the *music* versus when you're thinking of the scantily-clad female artist.

Or, wait... Hugo doesn't actually like Britney's music, does he?

What I really want to see, is a VNC client running inside a <FRAME> on a webpage for my playlists etc..

Real-time visuals, with all of the nice XML playlist controls.

Cool.

That java applet I have on my web page worked for me. You said it worked for you, too, under Konqueror. No reason you couldn't get it embedded in that XML playlist stuff you guys are working on, as far as I can see.

That (java VNC client) is the part I haven't played with yet. Mark is right, the combination would make ultimate remote controller.

BTW, did you play with priorities etc. in order to make server send screen updates even during disk read? Another detail: controls are responsive enough except for the first one after a while (e.g. if I listen to my shuffled player for an hour (actually, several minutes is enough) and then press, say, 'right' in order to skip an embarrassing tune, it will take some three seconds to respond; afrewards response time will be perhaps half a second or better).

Thanks for excellent utility!
