autohijack from the empeg unit? - 17/05/2002 07:07

is there a possible way to make a shell script which runs after dhcp grabs an ip, to upgrade hijack? should be easy enough. using userver ( http://empeg.comms.net/php/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=empeg_tech&Number=92556&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart= ), connect to see if theres a new kernel. if so, download and save as /proc/empeg_kernel, then run reboot. i'm not really skilled in the ways of shell scripts (not yet at least), so i ask if this is possibe w/o adding any programs on a stock b11 + hijack except an edit in the init script and the shell script itself?

When you are connect to the player via Jemplode, you can have Jemplode automatically check for updates and install them... doesn't even require an ethernet connection IIRC. This may not be what you are looking for, but in case you weren't aware of it, I thought I'd bring it up.

yeah, i know about that. but that requires some USER INPUT =). i want to be able to put my empeg on a network connection, autosense internet, autosense new kernel, upgrade, and reboot... all without me going to jemplode, or running the the autohijack.py script.

There is already a tool, here on this BBS, which allows you to automatically upgrade your Hijack kernel. I forget its name.

Hmm, let me think,....
autohijack?
Edit: But it still requires a PC (that needs a running python interpreter).
