weird LED behavior in A3 VW post hijack 263 - 10/06/2002 07:20

I know Genixia was going to try and play around a bit with this, but I'm still stuck on Hijack 262 in my VW.
If I upgrade further than that my VFD and LED's are really wacky. Sometimes on sometimes off, its totally random.
And unfortunately I guess I'm the only one effected by this.
I think the problems started after the LED illumination was improved to work in A4 VW/Audi's with the variable dimmer sense (A3 VW's dont got that).

Anyway, haven't heard anything in awhile and I was just wondering if theres been any progress on this front, or if its become a non-issue because it only effects me.

Cheers,
Z~

It's a bit wobbly in my '00/'01 Polo too. If I set the dimmer to max or min I get stable results, anywhere inbetween will have the buttons flashing at about 0.5 Hz

I'd tell you what it was like in my Polo '00, but I had to mutilate the sled by cutting off every extraneous wire to get it to fit into the damn dashboard (along with an existing CD headunit). Illumination sense was one of the things that had to go.

Fortunately, I purchased a spare sled before the shop closed, so all is not lost for my next install, whenever that may be!

Really? Single or double DIN dash? A '00 - was that before the facelift to clear glass headlights and high breaklight in the top of the rear hatch instead of in the top of the rear window?

Mine is a post facelift with double DIN dash and there was no real space issues (once I decided to remove my other HU :-)

Post-facelift (06/00) - as you say, no problem had I removed the other HU, but as I'd bought a JVC MP3 player less than a week before the empeg firesale, there was no way I could afford/justify an amp as well for a significant period of time (not yet, maybe soon).

So I had to have the empeg feeding into the JVC auxiliary in, which meant two players into the double-din slot, and with all the wires coming out of the empeg, and all the wires coming out of the JVC (it had a fairly chunky bundle too), plus wanting to keep the ISO connector so I could replace the stock unit when I sell the car, the space was very, very cramped.

To the degree that needed to extend things like the wire with the fuse block on, because there wasn't room for that for quite some distance.

I haven't forgotten, but I've been outrageously busy with work stuff in the past couple of months, so my HJ work has all but ground to a halt - I'm lucky if I find 30 minutes to keep up with this board in the evening. That might change soon though, so don't despair.

Great!
I was just checking in, no hurry.
