still no dice with JEmplode 36?

still no dice with JEmplode 36? - 08/07/2002 23:25

I think I posted about this a while ago, but when I install jemplode20.jar Version 36, it won't display anything. It goes through the motions, loads the database, offers to upgrade tags, and regardless of whether I choose yes or no to that, it won't display anything under Playlists, just "Loading...". If I search, it's there, it just isn't showing playlists.

Java isn't my thing, but if there's some useful debugging I can do, I'll be happy to do so.

Oh, I forgot to mention, it leaves all of the menu items you get when you've opened a player grayed out, but as I said, search works.

i also am unable to get jemplode v36 to display my playlists, etc... i have had to revert to v34 (the latest version i had archived - i have no idea if v35 has the same problem)...

37 fixes this for Tony... I'm hoping to get it out this weekend. If you're just dying to play with prerelease code (then again, yours doesn't work at all so it must not bother you too much), you can grab the pre-37 at http://www.jempeg.org/tfabris-jemplode20.jar and rename it to jemplode20.jar. In fact, I'm rather curious if your problem is the same as Tony's. Let me know if it fixes it for you.

Fixed it for me too. Amusingly it claimed a whole bunch of mp3s were missing offset tags and offered to repair them; It worked for a while, finished, and I reopened the database. It again offered to fix a whole bunch of mp3s (I didn't look to see if it was the same set). I declined, and got playlists and such.

As far as the tag fixing thing, can you take a look and see if the ones that it is talking about are MP3 files? Try it and see if it's the same ones over and over again. If it is, can you send me one that's having problems ... I've been trying to clean up the user interface for tag fixing in this release (and also how it identifies the file type of files -- it's by header rather than file extension now).

Oh -- incidentally, did you sync after it fixed tags? If not, then it didn't write them to your Empeg. That might explain this behavior.

One small request, I like to save old copies of JEmplode, and Hijack. After Autoupdate can we have the file that was just downloaded be saved to a specific directory? It is nice so you aren't downloading Hijack multiple times after downgrading and going back up or whatever. Thanks

I thought I syncd, but of course now you've made me doubt myself. I'll try when I get home tonight.

When you reopen the database, it's entirely possible that code path doesn't warn you that you have not synced (vs. quitting, while will give you the opportunity to sync). I'll take a look at that just in case...

So you just want it not download multiple times, or would you like it see that you already have it downloaded and just not even offer (with the assumption that if it exists and it's not on your player, then you upgraded and then downgraded again?)

I love the autoupdating features you have placed inside jEmplode. How it checks the internet to see if I am current is perfect. But after it downloads the files to update hijack, or jEmplode, to give me a backup copy of them.

In reply to:

To make it look and see that I have the file, but am running an older version so it doesn't offer I think would be pointless. I just try to keep the latest versions at all times. I like the idea of backups, and even with high speed, if we could have the option to save the files to a directory on our hard drives. Does that make sense?

I guess not. I did this time and it's all good.

Phew .. good.. I spent a lot of time working on that, so it would have sucked to find out that it was still screwy. I will fix the problem where it doesn't ask you to sync prior to connecting to the player a second time.

37 isn't out yet ... I'm shooting for a Sunday release. I'd release it now but I want to get Wendy Filters in first.
