German comments about RioCar at IFA 2001 - 29/11/2001 17:16

It is hard to read this through Babelfish's translation, but they seem to be saying something to the effect of...
'The only thing missing is the penquin to keep the Linux freaks happy.'

Then they need Tony's logo editor to revive the penguin!

Nah, what they were missing was the stuffed Tux so that Linux-freaks would feel at home and so that passers-by would instantly know what they were dealing with. (slight reservations due to a slightly rusty german...)

From the babelfish translation:

Thereby no stones are put to programmers and amateur handicraftsmen into the way with this device.

Hugo, how have you been treating your programmers lately?

The Man I Love,
by George & Ira Gershwin

Someday he'll come along
The man I love
And he'll be big and strong
The man I love
And when he comes my way
I'll do my best to make him stay
He'll look at me and smile
I'll understand
Then in a little while
He'll take my hand
And though it seems absurd
I know we both won't say a word
Maybe I shall meet him Sunday
Maybe Monday, maybe not
Still I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday will be my good news day
He'll build a little home
That's meant for two
From which I'll never roam
Who would, would you
And so all else above
I'm dreaming of the man I love

The Man I Love,
(translated from Japanese)

His person appears once upon a time.

As for him being large, the strong person.
When such a person appears,
Way he does not go everywhere,
Me, which endeavors with utmost effort.
He begins to smile to me,
I become aware to that.

However he grasps my hand,
Just a little change, perhaps,
Two people do not talk at all.
As for encountering him, whether Sunday,
Whether Monday, So, whether is not.
So, where certainly that day comes.
Don't you think? perhaps, that Tuesday.
Furthermore just two are small,
He builds the house, I being directly in the house,
Appear to everywhere and do not walk.
That person just who? Perhaps doing, you?
It waits for the fact that as for me
Such a his person appears in any case.

I have a small 3" tux stuck to my back window, merily swinging back and fourth as I drive.. and I sometimes have an 18" tux hanging out in the back seat.

Muahhahah!

Ahhh, the commercialism of Linux. Gotta love it.

You might as well have said it came from Klingon rather than Japanese. ;) Seriously, imagine it with a really rought voice and some "uhghhk" sounds.

Here's a pic of the Tux decal on the back of my VX. It says Linux 2.0 powered. Yeah, I know it's not 2.0, but close enough for the leity.

Yeah Babelfish should be called Babblefish.

The name is appropriate as is. See your Gideon for the story of the "Tower of Babel".

See The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for "Babel Fish" :)
