New car... is it worth keeping the empeg?

You don't understand...you don't have an Empeg to listen to in your car; you have a car to drive your Empeg around from place to place, depending on where IT wants to go.

Seriously, that car looks like a great candidate for removing the head unit & adding the empeg and and a head unit (it looks like a double-DIN opening). If you fed the empeg to a head unit with an internal amp (which would also get you a radio if don't have a tuner module) then you'd not need an external amp and you could probably get a harness connector that connected right to the Volvo for the speaker & power lines.

This would be very easy for a pro-installer, since there'd be no remote amplifier. The only thing would be connecting the switched and permanent power wires to the empeg. The only other connection (other than ground) would be connecting the front line outputs to the input on the commercial head unit. When you're done you could have tape or CD, Radio as well as you empeg.

Keep the empeg, and ditch that POS factory radio!

I have 00 Volvo V40

All Volvo S/V40 have a double-DIN opening.

So it will be an easy install.

Take out the volvo head unit and replace it with an aftermarket head unit and the empeg of course.

You don't need a faceplate.
The only thing you will need is a harness adaptors to connect the original equipment wiring harness to the after market ISO wiring loom.

Man, Volvo's like this BEG to have their radios replaced with an empeg and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD. I'm surprised that an '03 Volvo still has the double-DIN like the <2000 models. But if it's anything like my 2000 Volvo V70 install then it will be the easiest thing your car audio installer has ever done.

empeg + AM/FM/CD headunit + PIE MPSS4 source switching relay + amp + factory speakers = simple and very flexible setup. The relay is a box which sends the audio to the amp from the headunit that's currently powered on. On the PIE MPSS4, if you have empeg as primary and radio as secondary, it will work great.

Oh, and the photos in the link above are from the crappy version of my install. The empeg looks almost factory stock with the dashboard plastic, but make sure the installer recesses the second head unit into the dash a little. That way, it won't stick out and look ugly, and you can make a fake stock radio faceplate to cover the hole in the dashboard when your empeg and headunit faceplate are out.
