1999 Subaru Legacy B4 RSK - 08/04/2005 08:37

Well continuing on from my other thread
This is what the B4 Legacy looks like, not sure if you get them in the states.. its a Jap model.

Anyway, I'll put a pic of the dash console up.. So I can get opinions on what to do, I don't really want to cut into the trim..

We do NOT get it here, and never have, but it's a legend here amoung Subaru geeks like myself.

So you have one now ?? Congrats!

2.0 liter turbo? Those look like 02+ WRX wheels on there.

EDIT: Be sure to get your Subaru Tux Logo visual here. Now that you can use Tony's Logo Editor, my meathod is more involved for getting it here (I only provide the .raw file) but it works.

My install pics. Cutting the bezel isn't that big of a deal. Was more of a pain mounting the amp to the floor.

Wow, that's a pretty slick car. But wait... right-hand drive on a Japanese car? I thought the UK was the only place in the world with right-hand drive? Or did you get a Japan-only car built for the UK at the factory? THAT would be cool.

Except yours is backwards.

I checked out the price for a replacement and it was $100 from the dealer. I figured that for that price I could cut up my dash to install it. The facia there is the only thing that is not reversible in the install.

Heh yea..
err how do I get the trim off, I got the top part out, but the bottom seems to be attached to the cig lighter socket and pull out ash tray and held in by some screws (where)? Do i need to take the side panels off? The only screws I removed are the ones holding the tray in under the gear trim, in front of the gear shift.

There are some small screws under where the ash tray is inserted - you need a short screwdriver to get to them. This site is where I got some good install tips.

cool thanks found em, trim is out
did you use the current oem stereo as the amp, does it have a line input? Hmmm now to find some info on this Kenwood unit, to see if I can do the same..may have to go through the same rigmoral as my mazda install

Re: 1999 Subaru Legacy B4 RSK - 11/04/2005 11:07

My system is hooked up to the OEM system via an Audiovox FM Modulator. I had planned to use that as a stopgap and put an amp in later, but haven't got a round tuit yet. Maybe you can find an aux-in adapter for yours? They do not make them for the stock Subaru stereos yet. Here is the thread I posted when I installed my stereo a few years ago, I have a lot of information in there.
