no switched power in Alfa GT/147 ISO connector

no switched power in Alfa GT/147 ISO connector - 23/06/2005 14:31

Having traded my Alfa 156 for a new GT (Hi Erlend!), i'm currently figuring
how to install my Empeg. One problem that I least expected, is
that there is no switched power in the ISO connector. Apparently
the factory radio is powered on and off through the canbus.

How did other Alfa drivers solve this? Crazymelki?

Thanks,
Pim

If I were in your shoes, I'd simply work on finding another place to get a switched power feed and run the wire myself.

Another thing to think about, the empeg isn't the only car stereo that likes having a swtiched power feed. It's possible that there are third-party solutions for this problem already. Perhaps some sort of canbus interface.

You're right (of course!), there's a Dietz adapter that can deliver the signal. Too bad the rest of the signals it provides are useless, and steering wheel controls are missing.

Anyway, I will now hand over things to professionals, so I will let them decide what is best.

Good choice! I have no doubt your car audio dealer will know of a way to work around this!

I found this with my Spider but put up with it originally and haven't got around to sorting it out. What I found was that running into the alarm you get the memory and the ignition power wires but after the alarm you don't. Not sure if this is an installation error or not but they are fitted by Alfa.

Now I've connected my phone car kit to the loom as well I find that this never switches off. Haven't had any problems so far but can't leave the car un-started for more than a week at a time.

When I go away later in the year I'm just gonna have to disconnect it all.
