1995 Mercury Villager - 19/01/2002 19:22

I apologize if this has been asked before. I am attempting to put my rio 20gb into my 95 mercury villager as a temporary solution until I decide on a replacement car. My ideal way of doing this would be to just stick the rio into the extra din bay and keep the old stereo/tape deck but I'm not sure this is possible. Do I need a special cable? Is there a website I can go to for more information?

This will only work if your existing stereo/tape deck has auxilliary inputs. If it is the deck that came with the car, this is probably not the case. If it does have auxilliary inputs, you have about a 15 minute install job. All you have to do is connect your 12V wiring (ground, memory, ignition sense, headlight sense) wires, and run a pair of regular "RCA" cables from the outputs of the empeg sled to the auxilliary inputs of your existing deck.

If your existing deck does not have auxilliary inputs, then you are faced with either replacing your existing deck with one that does, or with a pretty serious installation with external amplifier, signal switching, etc.

If your Mercury is the same radio as a Chrysler you MAY be in luck. Check out the "]Universal Expediter Dream" on this page: http://www.peripheral-aamp.com/periph_products/audio_switchers.htm
You may want to email/call to make sure it will work.

Some of your questions are covered in the Installation section of the FAQ.

Don't look at me, I think most American car names suck. In fact, I think most things about most american car companies suck. So don't assume it's all Americans, it's just the small handful of weirdos running the american car companies that are odd.
