Audi A6 support

Audi A6 support - 24/11/1999 08:37

Now that I've seen Michael's Empeg I want one! Anyone know about supporting
one in an Audi A6? I don't know who makes the stereo, and I'm actually not
very interested in putting it in the dash. I'd much rather put it in the
trunk in place of the CD changer, though there is an interface issue (how to
control it remotely). Anyone know anything about the A6, or where to get info?
Anybody have ideas on how to put it in the trunk, interface it to the cd jack,
and control it from up front?

thx

Hi,

Late reply, but anyhow - what did you find out, and what color empeg mathes the dashboard color of the audi a6 ??

Anyone ?

Kaare.

I think the color of the A6's dash is deep-red. The red of the Mk2 doesn't really fit exactly 'cause is more likely orange than red. So I think a blue one would be the better choice than it would be a completely different but fitting color instead of trying to come close to the red...

But I'd be interested in how he ended up, too. In the late 99 there was no empeg sold 'cause they prepared the MK2 for getting ready. So he would have had to wait at least till about August 2000 (since he haven't bought a used MK1).
Have you bought an empeg player? Which one and where did you mount it? (I can't believe that someone mounts this beautiful thing into the trunk!)

I think Audi uses the same Red in all of their cars. I have a 2001 S4 and it matches PERFECTLY, not close, but perfect! It is the same color. Anywho... nobody makes a dash kit for the A\S4, A\S6, A\S8 so you have to make one if you put it in the dash. I am in the process of doing so... I wouldn't dream about putting it anywhere but in the dash!!! Someone did manage to put one in their trunk in an A4 - they got it to connect and think it was the CD Changer for the stock stereo. It didn't really take any commands, but when you press "CDC" on the radio, you hear the empeg, so the install is completely stealthy, but you don't get to see the empeg!!!

So do I ... but ...

Huh? I have an 97 A4, and the dash lights are deep red. The Empeg does *not* match. My Empeg is far more orange than red when powered on. When not powered on it matches nicely though :)

Anywho... nobody makes a dash kit for the A\S4, A\S6, A\S8 so you have to make one if you put it in the dash.

Even more ??? My car had a standard DIN unit. Some of the newer/larger models have custom made units from Blaupunkt which are a bit wider than standard DIN. Audi does make conversion kits for those units, should you choose to get a proper head unit instead (=an Empeg).

but you don't get to see the empeg!!!

Whats the point then? If you can't use the searching, the shuffling, the visuals, the equalizer, the coolness ... why not just grab a 100 CD Changer from Blaupunkt?

That's exactly what I need. My dash's color is like the BMW's - It's orange. And the amber empeg-display isn't what I needed. It's to bright/going into green. But I'm sure the red will fit my needs

When not powered on it matches nicely though :)

I can't remember times my empeg is not powered on - well - OK! Maybe if my car is parked in the garage and I'm not sitting in it...

If it is the same as a BMW dash, it will, perfectly even.

Cheers,
