It looks like you may even have some unintended theft protection here. With the gearshift lever in Park, is it possible to remove the empeg? If not, then that is a Good Thing (tm) because you can't move the gearshift lever without the ignition keys.
I didn't even think of that! That is clever (although probably not intended). Is the Good Thing (tm) referencing Martha Stewart? If so, it's a Good Thing (tm) you did that.
I didn't intend it this way, I just look at it as a bonus
It's the perfect theft protection. In Park it cannot be removed. It only occured to me when I wanted to take it out after removing the keys (keys can only be removed in Park).
I'll make a pic with the gearshift in Park.
That is a great point! I am getting ready to install my empeg into my Cadillac Catera and was going to have the empeg installed higher up to avoid the gear shift getting in the way. Now I have changed my mind so as to have the added protection from theft! Nice!
Could ya show more pictures on the aluminum piece of yours or describe it, how did you mount the sled to the car? Is there actually 2 pieces? ... and the aluminum is just the trim part? The reason is, i'm trying to avoid drilling anything at all, the car or sled and any ideas would be great for my install. Thanks.
Aah, i get it now. Thanks. =) At first the pictures were at weird angles or maybe it was the lighting. But after you clarified up the 2nd frame as a spacer it makes sense. Nice job =). So how did you mount the empeg securely? With the tabs?
Yep, the sled is mounted in the frame like you would in a standard radio opening, using the tabs. I only bent 4 tabs IIRC. I prefer not to use all the tabs as it isn't necessary and it makes removal of the sled more difficult.
