Saab 9-3 Viggen Coupe

Saab 9-3 Viggen Coupe - 10/05/2002 16:04

Let me start by saying that I am pretty displeased with how the install came out. But, time is of the essence (Empeg meet tomorrow) so I will have to live with it for now. Once I get the system the way I want it, I will post many more pics. Things that are not working at the moment:
  • Alternator whine. It is faint but I can hear it just the same.
  • Lost the use of the door speakers (6 speakers in this car). Saab passes the door speakers off as a sub. Well, they're not a sub but they are important for good lows. The car is nearly bass-less right now.
  • Autoleads Sony stalk converter doesn't work. If it's connected only the Vol+ button works. However, instead of raising the volume it changes the track or radio preset. When you shut the car with the Autoleads connected, the player is promptly brought out of standby and Vol- is constantly pressed. This doesn't stop.

Some pics are below. The amber empeg lens is a much better match to the Saab dash than the pics make it out to be.

Some other non-empeg related pics of my car

Didn't know Saab made cars with that name, so for a moment I thought you were talking about this Viggen. Was going to ask what you paid for it and what the insurance and registration fees were like.

Yeah, the car was obviously named after the jet. And with good reason. This thing flys like a MF!

Yes, there is torque steer... big time. It was pretty scary the first day I had it. Since then its been controlable.

Yeah there has been lots of probs with the autolead converters

This is bad news. I was planning on trying to figure out what's wrong. Now it seems there's no hope with that comment. Am I wrong? Getting that connector was a pain in the butt. Sending it back would mean sending it to the UK.

That's a mean ride you've got there...Needs some big subs to compete with DCosta's install though.

Great meeting you yesterday.

Install p0rn here

The install has been completed to my satisfaction today at The Sound Concept in Nanuet, NY. They did my Isuzu Rodeo and took the first crack at the Viggen. I soon realized that they did the best job they could with the money I was spending.

After taking it to two other installers that didn't even want to touch the car, i realized that there was something mysterious about this setup. I don't know what it was, but an installer in Paramus flat-out refused to work on it and I got nowhere with an installer in my home town. So, I brought it back to The Sound Concept. They are ultra-nice there and do fabulous work. On top of that, they did my car today without an appointment. All I have left to get done is the steering wheel controls, but I will worry about that later.

So, 2 months and about $1000 later, it sounds great. I am very happy.
