Builder request - increase size of swap partition - 13/06/2003 06:06

Greetings!

It would be nice in the future builder releases if the swap partition size can be increased. It is becoming more common with larger drives that people run out of memory space to do disk maintenance - i.e., Laura's disk build (doesn't use swap on the Mark1) and Michael West's fsck on a Mark2a, where there were duplicate blocks (needed to create a swap on the root drive to clear the fsck).

I do not know what the practical limit would be for Linux, but the 16MB swap partition might be increased to allow for more memory-intensive applications.

As a work around, Linux can also swap to an ordinary file on an existing filesystem/partition, and can pool together more than a single swap space.

Cheers

That's what we did to get that fsck working, on Bitt's recommendation. It would just be nice if some extra space was automatically built in.
