Internal radio - 27/04/2004 08:49

I wish a radio module existed to be mounted internally for those who are happy with 1 hdd. Has anyone wished this too? Just curious.

I think the radio module was deliberately mounted externally in order to reduce interference by the CPU and other RF-noisy components within the casing of the player.

You're welcome to try rigging this up yourself by dismantling the factory radio module and hacking it into place. You could probably make it fit, but I bet it would have all sorts of interference problems. Then again, maybe it would work fine? If you could get it to work, it would be a great hack and you'd be a pretty big hero.

You'd also have to rig an antenna connector to the docking assembly somehow, perhaps by cannibalizing the mic input docking pins...

It was mostly this, IIRC, but moving the tuner module outside the case also allowed us to support taller disks in the mk2 and mk2a, as compared to the mk1.

I used to think that, along with wanting a CD player, but once I'd really got in to using the Empeg, neither seems important.

I never listen to the radio anymore, apart from recordings loaded to the Empeg, to listen to when it suits me, and I have a CD portable knocking about in the car somewhere, to plug into aux, but I can't think I've used it in a year or more.

Like you, I never used a CD and never ever missed.

I do use the radio, instead. And I am having problems which I am now thinking depend on some connection on the sled side. This got me thinking how nice it would be to have a radio in the empeg. If I did, it would 've never been stolen with my old car, and I would never end up buyin a rusty one, and probably I would've never spent so much time in sorting out all the problems I am having now. The old radio module just worked, always, for two yeras.

Only reason I need the radio is the traffic announcements...

I would too, but actually, and it's not an Empeg fault, in the 12 miles to work, my music is interrupted by RDS traffic reports from 5 locations over a much larger radius than can possibly be of use to me - it's just too irritating to put up with.
