Running list wishes - 15/10/2004 16:20

Once again, being able to jump straight to all the tracks with the same source or maybe artist/source as the current song would be super. In most cases, I'd like it to replace the current song with a queue of all the songs in that source in the proper order, starting with the first.

I'd also like a new insert mode. I'd like one that appends a playlist to the current one and when the current playlist is done, it deletes it from the running order. That is, I'd like to play one album, think of another album I'd like to hear when the current one is done, add it, and then when it starts playing the new album, forgets about the old one. Occasionally I'll just append, but there are a lot of times currently when, while listening to one playlist, got to the arrow for another playlist and wait for the current one to end before hitting down for that last time. ("Go to the phone and dial nine, one. When I tell you, dial one again.")

It seems like there are some others I'd like to see, but I, of course, can't think of them now.

Why do you want it to forget the previous selection? Do you use Repeat a lot?

Yes. Plus, when I'm playing an album, I like to see the track numbers, and playlist number is as good as it gets.

track numbers

If we're making requests, that might be a good one too.

Good point. That was probably one of the ones I couldn't think of.

If you use emphatic, you should be able to customize your display to add the track number property.I haven't tried it but i've added other properties.

Yeah, but I shouldn't have to waste resources just to do that.

Agreed. As much as I like emphatic, it DOES seem to take a lot of resources on my player, as in it takes 3 seconds to switch tracks if I have "burn in" and visual backgrounds on. I know, I could turn those off, but...

I agree with the other thread suggesting we pool resources / skills and work towards a player replacement. If not hardware, then software. And I think Tony's emphatic should be a model (along with the original software) for the interface / display of that player.

I agree. A lot of the hard part of writing this software would be UI design, and that's already done. Not to say that the rest of it, including UI implementation would be easy. We should set up a CVS repository for us to work on it collectively.

Might I point out this as something to whet peoples appetites? I know it makes me want to see someone replace the display board. Couldn't find it on their site, though I did find a reference to it. Might be worth contacting them and inquiring.....?
