MP3Pro Support - 30/05/2005 05:12

What is the chance of version 3.0 supporting MP3pro as a format? This would mean better quality for lower bitrates, which has the potential to save space on the machine. I don't know what the legal / licensing implications are for this, but I think it would be a nice inclusion if it can be done.

Very unlikely to happen as you have to pay extra licensing fees for the MP3Pro codec along with actually finding an optimised ARM version of it. How much music do you have anyway? It's possible to put 2x 100GB drives into the empeg which should be plenty (Paul excluded)

Probably not what you want to hear, but this is already done with Ogg Vorbis. I have converted all of my music to OGG at half the bitrate my MP3s were, and the sound quality is equal if not better, both in-car and at home.

Of course this requires version 3 of the player software. I myself have been using 3alpha8 for months with no major problems.

Yeah! I thought as much, but I thought it was worth asking anyway. Thanks for clearing that up though
