Telephone mute setable in the car - 15/11/2000 04:05

Hi.

Today I tried out the telephone mute function for the first time, and after two cycles of "plug empeg into car, do phonecall, take empeg back in, reconfigure it, plug it in the car", I really thought:
Damn, this should be configurable from within the car, even without a emplode capable laptop available. A new entry in the "Settings" submenu?

But once you get it right, you don't need to change it. Therefore, there's no requirement for changing it on the fly in the car. Hence no menu item.

I agree it is irritating if you get it wrong the first time, though.

Unless of course you have two different cars, with two different settings needed...

This would be another use for the personalities idea that has been raised before (though it was suggested for storing different user preferences then).

People building home docking boxes would also like more personalities than just home/car. By the way, if such a box becomes commercially available, I'll order two in a jiffy.

...which would imply you have got two different makes of car phone, and therefore two different types of in-car phone installations, and two seperate phone numbers. This would also imply that only the phone installed in one car would work only in that car; how would people know which phone to ring you on?

I predict this thread will become really silly now

There's a much simpler possibility for that situation: His & Hers cars, but a one-empeg family. Not a farfetched idea.

I really don't see the point of it muting, with my old Kenwood (now set as AUX) the CD changer pauses when a call comes in meaning you don't miss anything. I would like the empeg to pause too when the muting signal is present. I would then like the unit to play when the signal disappears. This would allow you to override the "mute pause" by just pressing the play button during a call.

I saw another thread about the ability to config this sort of feature through emplode.. Good Plan! You could have options to:

Mute
Pause
Reduce vol by XXX DB
Reduce vol to XXX DB

It mutes in 1.0 and pauses in 1.1.
