Saved Info Mode

Saved Info Mode - 03/06/2001 03:22

I cannot find any mention of such a request...

I'd really like to see the unit save the info mode. Currently, I set the info to line mode but this resets every time the unit powers off. When the unit powers up again the info is back to the default.

Am I missing something and the unit already does this? It seems like a pretty obvious request since the unit already saves the visualization mode.

I assume you mean in the car i am afriad this is a feature so that some sue happy yank doesn't get into his car and then drive into something and blame the fact the empeg is in a visual mode. So to keep them selves safe in car it automatically defaults to the info mode but sadly it doesn't default to now and next which i prefer.

As you know by now, switching to info (or rather, out of visual) on startup in the car mode is a 'safety' (read 'anti-litigation') feature defeatable by a kernel hack. If the player does not remeber which of full-screen info modes was selected (track or now&next), then it's a bug. I think this has been discussed, even supposedly fixed.

Yes, Tony, I'm a newbie to this site. However, I'm not a newbie to message posting sites in general. I performed several searches prior to posting my question. I just did not enter the right phrase that would have returned the FAQ message that you so nicely gave me a link to. Thanks for making my first post a memorable one.

Don't get offended, the question you asked is the one question that will get some rather frustrated replies. This is because it was the subject of at least two long running flame threads (which are rare around here) and it gets asked about a million times.

As well as the FAQ, reading the user guide will yield the answer!

I'm starting to think that we should have done what other multimedia head manufacturers do, and put up a warning screen when the player starts. At least there would be no confusion then.

eek... i prefer your manner of dealing with the legal-happy culture of we yanks in the states more than a "warning screen"

with a warning screen there comes the battles of "how long should it be displayed? 30 seconds isn't long enough" and "the text is too small... better make it two or three screens long with big scrolling letters"

i'll personally sacrifice the niceity of having my visuals come right back for the convenience immediate access to my music after the unit boots. =)

I think you should also add a warning sign that it is not a good idea to put the empeg in the microwave or similar helpfull advices

Re: Saved Info Mode - 04/06/2001 09:28

I performed several searches prior to posting my question.

Not your fault.

The BBS doesn't really support a "FAQ" forum particularly well. If it did, we'd have it categorized, and properly linked from the top of the page, etc. Instead, what we get is a forum with the messages piled in there willy-nilly. And also, it's split across multiple pages. So it's hard to find stuff even if you're looking.

I was only kidding with my "newbie" comment, hence the smiley-face. I had just noticed that all my replies so far that day had been to link the FAQ entries.

Welcome to the BBS, by the way!

Re: Saved Info Mode - 04/06/2001 16:56

Sorry for my reaction Tony. I seriously searched for 20 minutes and by the time I posted my question I was quite frustrated at not finding something. I knew it must have been addressed some time before. And in fact, the FAQ reminded me of reading something like that in the user manual when I first received the unit. I had forgot all about it.

Thanks for the welcome!

Yeah, but what were you planning on doing with the hammer?

Actually, I *have* used my empeg as a hammer once - it's pretty solid and heavy. I'm not recommending anyone else does it, though :)

Re: Saved Info Mode - 05/06/2001 17:33

Far too much like the butthole surfer's album, which had a warning label "Warning! May contain Butthole surfers".

Not that I like that band, but I did see the album and liked their sense of humour :)

Re: Saved Info Mode - 06/06/2001 01:39

Not sure I'd want to use it as a "defensive handbag" due to the mass of the thing.

There again, I know people for whom I could make an exception

Re: Saved Info Mode - 06/06/2001 02:05

Works even better if encased in a Pelican case - whack'em hard and
still no damage to the empeg (haven't tested, but I'd be surprised if
anything happend to the unit...)
