Potential new INFO mode... "Marquee"

Potential new INFO mode... "Marquee" - 05/06/2001 16:56

Here's my inspiration for this potential info setting... you are in your car, key turned only to "accessories" power... windows down on a beautiful 70 degree (Farenheight... i'm a yank) night. empeg is set to Visual: Funnelweb and everyone's got the seat backs down just a little. You have a three hour Pink Floyd playlist running... on shuffle mode.

What if there was an info setting that would show you song titles but only during track changes. kinda like how MTV would display artist and song info for a few seconds at teh beginning of a video... well, back when they played videos.

something kind of like this...
http://www.anivcd.com/images/info.gif
(that's a 300K animated GIF file with a mediocre rendering of what is supposed to look like Funnelweb.)

heh... for someone who can't program a visual i sure am specific about what i'd like to see, eh?

This was long ago reported as one of the info modes that will be available in version 1.1 (when it comes out).

Its name is "Info: Transient". And it looks almost identical to the way you animated it.

ah, i am not making as much headway as i want reading all the old posts. =)

(just got my MK2 empeg working so i'm new to these forums)

hehe... i feel special, i have creative visions sort of like the cool empeg people.

question about Info: Line - 05/06/2001 17:17

speaking about info modes... has anyone ever discussed putting an extra horizontal line of black pixels above the static or scrolling song text?

It's just that some of the visuals throw a lot of activity on the display and make song text hard to read... a little buffer line of pixels could help one's eyes.

Also on the note of features. I've installed Kit's Time Kernel (which is absolutely great having a clock again). However, it would be great if we could have the visual going, and the clock on with a selection on one of the corners or in the bottom middle of the screen. It would allow for shibby vis PLUS me knowing how late I am for work or coming back from lunch!

Just a quick thought!

1. v1.1 has a full-blown clock visual (a la InfoTex)
2. One of the time modes (i.e. elapsed/remaining) is a clock. It's available in all of the info modes.

In fact, you're still marginally less cool than us : the 1.1 version of this features squishes the visual up into the top 3/4 of the screen, rather than overlaying it like in your animation.

Peter

PS. but yes, otherwise it's almost frighteningly similar

You have a three hour Pink Floyd playlist running... on shuffle mode.

I'm of the opinion, that Pink Floyd albums should always be listened to in order, and whenever possible in their entirety . . . then again, I don't own an empeg yet, either.

What, you mean you can listen to music out of order? *Boggle*

Maybe I'm just weird.

ah... but does the visual compress to the upper 3/4 of the screen in a jumpy manner or in a smooth process as i tried to show in my animation?

i particularly liked the idea of a "slide in... slide out" effect.

It does it progressively. It also slides the text in and out, and if you fast forward or rewind it slides up the time index.
