Hugo just posted about this in a thread in general, but I can't find it. He mentioned that the ogg developers have developed a arm based decoder, but haven't released it as open source.

I will second the motion to try to get an Ogg decoder into the Empeg.

I did read the thread in the general board, and I understand the circumstances, but it would be nice to have support for Ogg.

Although its not available from the Vorbis people, it sure would be nice to have the open source OGG, the commonplace MP3, and the takeovertheworld WMA. The full spectrum of encoding philosophies.

My empeg gets put on a plane to take a trip back to England today for a doctors visit. Wish it well.

ARM has said in the past that there isn't enough demand for a ogg decoder yet. Plus it would cost money to write it. I would like to see ogg in the empeg too - options are good. Lame/mp3 is getting to the point where further development will yield marginal improvements. Ogg has a lot of room for improvement, but sounds pretty good now. Its only going to get better.

For me it is a matter of having a choice. Incidentally, Ogg Vorbis 1.0rc1 is out. I happend to speak with someone last night in Holland who is pretty knowledgeable on the Ogg Vorbis subject. He guesses it would take about 2 weeks to change the current source into a fixed point version. I don't suppose anybody here feels like giving it a try ? Apparantly the Ogg core team is not going to work on a (public) fixed point version any time soon. It has been done like Hugo said though. Just not for public release, though work on it is still visible in the code.

Cheers,
Hans
