Mute Function

Mute Function - 11/07/2001 02:42

I remeber a post some time ago about having configurable mute functions but I can't seem to find the thread.

Previously, I just had a cellphone installed and I didn't like the fact that it continued playing rather than pausing like my old Kenwood CD changer. So I wanted this functionality.

However, I have just installed a VDO dayton MS5000 navigation system which also has a mute line. With this it mutes every time there is a spoken instruction so I would like the empeg to just decrease volume by a certain amount.

If it could also ramp up again rather than just resume, that would be even better.

Just these 2 scenarios make me think that a configurable setting in emplode would be beneficial to most mute users.

Related to this is automatic speed compensation for the volume. The nav system has a tap to the speedo to measure the number of pulses per second. I don't think it should be too difficult to feed this line into the empeg serial port to allow an auto increase in volume dependant on speed. It seems that most modern cars have electronic speedos, in my case I had to fit a Hunter transducer to the mechanical cable, but this was only £28, delivered. Has this been done before ?

I would love the answers to both of these to be:

1.1

Please let it be so..

The answer to both _is_ v1.1

The answer to both _is_ v1.1

Do you mean both mute requests or both the mute and automatic volume compensation requests?

OK. I didn't read the original post thoroughly.

Version 1.1 has support for the cellphone mute line. In response to the cellphone mute, you can configure it to do one of the following:

1. Mute playback
2. Pause playback
3. Attenuate (turn the volume down).

You might be able to find a way to hack the nav system into the cellphone mute line, and then set it to attenuate.

This sounds good but leads to another option which would be a different solution for me:

When muted, pause playback and switch to the AUX input. I could then pipe the audio out of the nav into the AUX port of the empeg which would then automatically be a set fraction of the volume I was listening at.

I saw in another post that you can not mix AUX and player output without some serious modification which would have been my ideal solution.

This is extremely similar to a request I made a while ago, namely setting up to use the empeg itself as a car kit. I already have a primo (Andrea DSP) mic in anticipation of VR, and I'd like to split the mic output to the phone, and then route audio out of the phone into the AUX input.

Not sure how to make the feedback cancelling work right, but...
