"Jump to" Search Mode...

"Jump to" Search Mode... - 11/07/2001 09:26

My one wish should be easy to implement (I hope). I've heard that an Insert option is going to be added to the current "Append" and "Search" Search modes. While this is a definite improvement, I'd like a search mode that simply jumps to the song within your current playlist. Many of my playlists are huge - for instance my classic rock playist has over 600 songs. Now if I'm listening to Led Zepplin, and I want to start listening to the Rolling Stones without screwing up my playlist, the only way to get there is to hit skip about 200 times. This is not fun.

While I enjoy the current search modes, I'm surprised this "jump to" feature doesn't exist already, as it seems like the most intuitive kind of search.

This feature does exist, in two different ways. The first one is called the "Playlists" menu. Just make a Stones playlist and select it. The second one is Search By Artist.

Note that in 1.1, there will also be a "Search By Playlist".

I do understand that you're asking for something different. You want to change your position in the playlist without selecting a different playlist, and without using the "Next Track" button.

But the only reason you want it is because you're still in the "CD Changer" mode of thinking. I'm trying to point out that the empeg is more "free-form" than that, and you'll eventually get to the point where you use the playlists differently and won't need a feature like the one you describe.

In any case, 1.1 will take care of it, as you'll be able to "insert by artist" all your Stones tunes.

Something you might not have noticed yet: If you've got shuffle on, and a Stones tune starts playing, you can press the "2" key on the remote, and it'll make the next tune another Stones tune. You can keep doing this and it'll keep adding as many Stones tunes after the current song as you like. This might be something similar to what you want (although it's not what you asked for).

Hmm....I'm skeptical about not needing my beloved search feature, but I'll concede to the wisdom of the elders and try and get used to this "free-form" style of music selection. :)

Thanks Tony.

I would like something like that like if I am listening to all the songs in the punk category and I want to listen to a particular song in that category I have to exit out of what is playing now play the song I want then go back and start over again and if I was using shuffle then the songs I have listened to already will be played again

it's not a big deal but this is a wish list :-)

There's also the bookmarks: You can save your position, do whatever playlist/search navigation you want, and then come back to where you left off. But you'll have to wait for v1.1 for that, obviously .

I didn't know that about pressing the "2" key on the remote. Thanks for that. Are there any other shortcuts ilke this? I'm sure there have been many little updates since the original Empeg manual was written. Maybe there should be an FAQ entry on "extra" features like this?

The new Rio remote is labelled properly for these:

2 - artist
3 - source
5 - genre
6 - year

1 and 4 were unused because they'd correspond to the volume if you held the remote the wrong way round.

In v1.1, the 1 key _is_ used - it changes the time display, through the following modes:

Track elapsed
Track remaining
Track elapsed/total
Playlist elapsed
Playlist remaining
Playlist elapsed/total (currently I'm 5 days, 11:02:43 through an 11 day, 16:44:02 playlist!)
Clock (currently 24-hour, but I might throw in a 12-hour variant to keep the yanks happy).

IIRC, the zero button turns shuffle on/off.

So do I.
And so I can't help asking the question. I am afraid is has been said like a hundred times somewhere in the bbs, but could not find it. So... When is 1.1 supposed to be released? Roughly? More or less? , Ok, ok, don't kill me, I really could not find it!!
