UI enhancement - 25/10/2001 19:35

I would like to see quicker access to the bookmarking features. Currently there isn't a way to access them from the remote.(Maybe in the future?)

It takes pressing the right button 6 times to access this feature now, I would like to see it directly to the right of shuffle. (pressing 2 times)

What does everyone think?

BTW this is my favorite feature of the player now. It's very frustating having my 15 year old daughter lose my place in my playlists every time she jumps in.

Ummmm... "Menu/OK"; "-->" six times; "Menu/OK";

and there you are at bookmarks.

I can beat that tune in three notes:

Menu, 8, OK.

If the argument is to use the remote, then "bookmarks" should be placed first (before playlists) ....Right?
You see I can get to "Playlists" with one keypress on the remote... Right? But I sure can't get to bookmarks with one press of the remote.

I would venture to guess many people use the front panel to access "shuffle", thus weighting it's position before "bookmarks".
Next in line is "Info" which I'm guessing doesn't get changed often, and if it does is by remote.
"Visuals are next, and I know it is much easier to access these by the remote (not to mention "favorite" visual access)
Next is "Power off" need I say anything about it's weight?
Finally, there is "About", how frequently is this accessed???
Wow! one more press and I'm there! phew......."bookmarks"

Hmm. That is Menu, 7, Ok for me... yours must be in the car w/the tuner...

Tony's probably got a 'Quit' option in his top level menu and maybe you haven't. That would explain the difference in positioning of the 'Bookmarks' item.

That would explain the difference in positioning of the 'Bookmarks' item.

I took Tonys answer to mean push remote button 'menu' then the '7' button, for a total of 2 button presses. I don't have my player handy to try.

Re: UI enhancement - 27/10/2001 08:48

What I meant was, that Tony said: 'Menu' then '8' and Time said that it's 'Menu' then '7' for him. I was just pointing out that Tony probably has the 'Quit' menu on his player which shifts subsequent menus 1 extra place to the right. This would move the 'Bookmarks' menu from position 7 to position 8.

Re: UI enhancement - 27/10/2001 08:53

That's correct. Whether or not you use the 8 key or the 7 key to jump to Bookmarks will depend on whether you've enabled the Quit menu item in config.ini. Thanks for catching that one.

I actually don't have anything to execute at the shell right now in my current player version, perhaps I should turn off that menu item.

I know, number 7 or 8 is the number 7 or 8 on the remote keypad is what I was refering to, not how many times you have to push remote button to get to bookmarks. I guess you can shortcut pushing the number 7 or 8 on keypad will take you to the 7th or 8th item on the menu.

I have the 'about' item as well but don't use it anymore, how do you turn it off?

Re: UI enhancement - 27/10/2001 10:18

Correct. The point I was making is that I can reach the bookmarks in three keypresses:

- Press the Menu key.

- Press the 7 key (or the 8 key, depending on your player).

- Press the OK key.

I realize that's not "one button", but it's not many buttons.

Here's an interesting idea for one-button access:

How about holding down the "Mark" button on the Rio Remote to reach the bookmarks menu? Hmm. I like that. I'm going to suggest that one directly.

I like it Tony!

Please do suggest, as your word obviously has more weight than mine.

BTW thought I would chime in also and say cool tux animation.
