HiJack? "Siren Button" on the remote

HiJack? "Siren Button" on the remote - 18/04/2002 10:10

What do you think ?
I was driving the other day and I herd a LOUD ASS siren of a firetruck or something and I looked around and couldn't see anything comming... after which I realised it came from one of my DR. DRE songs on the EMPEG.

than I thought ... man ... it would be cool to have a button on the player to play a short SAMPLE SOUND (eg. a police siren) to scare your friends at camping

I don't know how hard it would be to implement this with the existing software on the empeg so I figured maybe a HiJack hack could do it ?

I thought about downloading sound effects like sirens.

well to have them on the empeg as mp3s is one thing .. but to be able to play them at a press of a button is another ... (an instant siren if you will )

They have those toys that you can get to mount on your dash. Road Rage Eliminators / Audio Stress Relief basically. They have buttons marked "grenade" "machine gun" "laser beam" and so on. It would certainly be funny to load mp3s or wavs of various stress relief noises, and then assign various trigger buttons to them. For example, get a generic remote and use hijack to assign buttons to various sounds and use that remote to activate the noises! :-D

How cool is that?

Yeah, just don't use the machine gun noise around any trigger-happy Texans.

you could do it easily with a macro. Just make a playlist with a siren sound, and assign a button to be the equivelant of the menu presses to get to the sound.

PIN would be your fastest way to do it I think.

that's what i'm talking about ... that would be a great little toy to have ... imagine instead of using your horn, you press a button on the remote to have your system YELL OUT F#$#K YOU F$@#K YOU

hehehe ... talk about stress relief

but in order for a feature like that to work ... it HAS to be instant ... ie. no searching for the sample using the search button or not going down to play a certain playlist. just pressing a button on the remote and that's it ... you have a siren going off and cars infront pull to the side

This could be tackled by hacking one of the kid's toys to provide a line level input, and a signal that could indicate when it was operational. That signal could be used to drive the cellphone mute line (via a simple circuit if necessary), that could trigger hijack to switch to Aux In.

Advanced custom sounds could be handled by those 10 second audio recorder kits in place of the toy.

Tony's right. The best way to do that today is to assign PINs, like 7, 8, and 9 to three sounds you want access to. It's 3 total button presses to play the effect, but that's still pretty close...
Just make sure you make the tracks, or the playlist they're in "Ignore as child", or else they'll get shuffled into your play orders, which could be disconcerting if you're not expecting it.
