Button on remote to exit player

It'd be nice if the developer versions would drop you into the shell if
you press a certain button on the remote control. Sometimes CTRL-C or q
don't get me in for some reason and I have to reboot.

The only time ctrl-C won't work is when the serial port is in raw mode. This happens when the protocol is started - either downloading or synchronizing.

It never seems to work after I've used emptool. Until I reboot. I suppose
I could write my own program to kill player with the IR code that was
posted, if you don't want to add it.

Exactly. The serial port has been used for the protocol so it is in raw mode.

You can use emptool to quit the player if you need to.

I'm not keen on using the remote to quit the player since there are far more important uses for all the buttons. Also, it would be useless on the consumer image.

It is possible that the port could be reset to cooked mode after synchronisation is complete but this is quite difficult to manage.

I'd prefer an extension to the main menu to allow a Programs sub menu. This would be filled from a config file, and would allow us to run programs (or quit the player).
If the file isn't there, then the programs menu doesn't appear.
Just a thought.. =)

Not a bad idea. Something along those lines would certainly be sensible.

The original /sbin/init seems to be essential to run the player. Killing the
player won't help as long as init is running and killing init is not a good
idea. :-(

Btw. empeg-init seems to trap kill signals. What signal handlers are
implemented? Since the empeg-init uses ttyS1, I need to kill it, so
I can run pilot-xfer.
