Mark2 ext tuner: add RT clock

Mark2 ext tuner: add RT clock - 28/11/1999 18:10

With the addition of the external tuner module on the MarkII, there is now the potential to have a real time clock that is constantly powered in that module.

Then you could have the tuner module communicate the current time to the main empeg module when it's on.

I'll greatly miss the clock on my new Alpine.

Even cooler in this regard would be to put the hardware for it on the board, but to use that hardware that digital watches use to autosync themselves. Then, even if the power is removed, when the unit powers up, it can resync the clock "out of thin air" as it were.

The Mk2 does have a RTC onboard. We've not profiled how long it'll run without power, but the current guess is 7 days+ (it uses a 0.22F supercap). The unit doesn't have to be *on*, it just has to be either in the car (the mk2 takes a perm 12v feed as well as accessory) or plugged in at home to recharge the cap.

Resetting it from RDS time/DAB time/your PC's time is an option, yes.

Awesome!

Glad to hear you guys have such a good grip on these things.
Has the EQ capabilities changed at all in the Mk2?

No, EQ is the same - it's inside the DSP. We may at some point add left/right delays to audio (this would be in the player software and so would be added to MkI units too) - it's on the wish list, but not the to-do list.
