Well, not so much a "normal" bug

Well, not so much a "normal" bug - 19/08/2002 08:02

I'm running Beta13 and it's great, but since I was never a fan of the built-in fonts I stole fonts from my pinball machines to use, since the display they have is exactly the same dimensions and type as the empeg.

The fonts are great, as you can see by the picture, but it has an odd effect while syncing - since the font is a bit wider than than stock, it "drags" the ends of the font.

It's not a bug that effects anything important, but I thought I would bring it up.

I did lowercase but I didn't like the results. In fact, the lowercase letters were the worst part of the original fonts. I don't miss them.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND. WHY WOULD THE LACK OF LOWERCASE MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO YOU?

Now, now. Be nice. I cannot say I like all caps, but the issue is that a custom font is not clearing itself when scrolled.

Does the scrolling text involved with some of the info:transient and other info:screens work properly with this font? How is the erasure being performed when dealing with scrolling? I find it interesting that the "cutoffs" of the scroll not not appear to be the last possible pixel - I would have thought to see the right edge of the "G" and the left side of the "S", and not the uppermost and lowermost extremes of the "G" and three lines from the "S"...

Perhaps the clear routine is assuming a fixed size font, but I am not certain that would account for the (personally rather neat looking) pattern in the pic.

since the font is a bit wider than than stock, it "drags" the ends of the font.

If the string "synchronising" is 80 pixels or more long, then you'll get pixel drag.

Dude, that Synchronising screen looks awesome, like a logo or something.

Actually, the fonts work perfectly in the player - the extra width is handled by scrolling. It's just during sync. That'sa why it's more a curiousity than a problem.
