changing IP address

changing IP address - 29/03/2003 06:14

Is this a bug?
When using emplode's "edit ini-file" to change the IP address, and then sync, Emplode thinks the empeg player has not rebooted properly, and insistes that my changes have not been updated.

Emplode must think it's not rebooting properly since the player would have changed IP address and disappeared.
To fix this I guess you'd need to parse the new config.ini and work out the new IP address and then use that afterwards.
I originally configured my player via the serial port and not changed it since

This makes sense because the "Network" tab in "Configure Player" (emplode) does not appear when connected via ethernet.

Easiest way to fix this would be to configure the IP when connected via USB or setup HiJack so that you have one set of Network settings for "@Home" and another for "@work" so you don't have to change them that often. (Looking back now, it would have been nice to have @Home use DHCP and @work use an assigned IP - but I've switched jobs now so it's mute.)

Ah. I was looking for the network options tab, and thought it must never have been there... I have no way of connecting via USB at the momen.. .but restarting emplode worked well. (I don't do this very often either)

No. It's a problem that you induced yourself, immediately after answering a clear warning box that you might do precisely that.

You can work around this problem next time by connecting via serial or USB when you want to change the IP address.

Actually on this same note.

I use DHCP for my empeg. When I upgrade the Hijack kernel it gets a new lease on a different IP. Prolly a problem with my router tho

So jemplode just sits there and goes "la la la, waiting for reboot" So I have to cancel the window and connect to the empeg on the new address.

For some reason it always get 169 first, and then gets 110.

Most DHCP servers will give a device the same lease as long as there's not a big lag between connection attempts (and by big lag I mean like days or weeks). Lease duration is often configurable on the DHCP server, can you check to see?

On my router, I locked the empeg's MAC address to a certain IP. So THAT empeg always gets THAT IP. Maybe you can do the same?

Bitt, thanks for the correction on that. It didn't look right when I wrote it but it's one of those things you hear in conversation all the time buy never actually use in writing.
